The Director of Ancillary Product has segment specific accountability for the Ancillary Product Design, Development and Management functions and supporting teams. This role will be accountable for the Dental, Vision, Term Life, Disability, Long Term Care, Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity product lines.

This role strongly supports the development of Ancillary Strategy. Activities of this role include leading teams to develop insights into drivers of new or existing consumer behaviors and determining how to advantage Florida Blue in meeting member and group needs / being competitive, relevant and profitable with our products, all the while managing, leading and owning the design for projects / initiatives to deliver new products or services. Methods to support these activities could incorporate data mining, statistical & financial analysis, trend recognition, predictive modeling, artificial intelligence and optimization.

This Director will also have segment specific accountability for the Product Management function. This will include oversight for existing Ancillary Products in the Market, and organization support in daily operations for these products including Sales, Training, Segment, Corporate Initiatives, Grievance & Appeal support. Additionally, this function owns evaluation of ever-changing regulations at the State & Federal level to determine required changes to products in the market, Product Performance, Portfolio Rationalization, Competitiveness Assessments & identification of product gaps, and Product-related vendor relationship management.

This role combines and analyzes diverse types of market data to extract new, actionable discoveries about our members and Ancillary Products.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
• Lead a team accountable for collaborating with internal and external partners to conceive, design, and launch new initiatives, including products, services and platforms, which will drive improvement in member enrollment / retention, member health, have the potential to disrupt and transform the business, and /or generate profitable revenue for Florida Blue.
• Creating an innovative product strategy for the ancillary products that translate to a compelling value proposition for multiple constituents
• Owning and improving the ancillary product processes, including methods, tools and techniques
• Creating an environment to allow the team to prosper and grow. Hiring quality talent and facilitate career development of the team. Coach the team in method, facilitation and behaviors
• Leading and guiding the evolution of the Product Portfolio to deliver the next generation of innovative ancillary products and business models
• Identify opportunities to maximize Product performance, and ensure the viability of the product in the marketplace
• Support the teams in ensuring best practice is being followed
• Ensure organizational change to enable improvement in Competitiveness and Performance
• Collaborate with and manage various vendors to maximize Florida Blue ancillary value proposition
• Collaborate and communicate across many business functions including sales, marketing, delivery and operations business units.
• Develop relationships and communicate progress across many business units to develop new ideas and products
• Create and publish product roadmaps that support future innovative concepts, to provide a vision of where Florida Blue needs to go
• Be the Product Owner from proof-of-concept to a commercially launched product that can be transitioned to a line of business
• Partner with Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Network, Service, Sales, Guidewell Connect to build and maintain a robust portfolio of ancillary products
• Identify specific product needs and create products in line with corporate strategic initiatives and commercial growth
• Manage select vendors in development states through pilot launch and support of platform scaling, leveraging both internal and external resources and partnerships
• Collaborate and co-create, leveraging internal resources, to enable development of future focused consumer centric models while concurrently identifying and integrating external partnerships and insight to facilitate design, testing and development.
• Drive a robust yet flexible process to assess business models for high potential ideas leveraging standard analytic processes as relevant but also recognizing that great innovations are generally not derived from traditional methodologies
• Proactively identify regulatory constraints and ensure that products are compliant

Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• 6+ years of product related experience within an insurance organization
• 3+ years’ direct management experience
• Ability to generate ideas and shape business models based on the market place
• Strategic thinking and planning capabilities; proven organization skills and detail oriented with ability to be flexible and work with ambiguity
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of the Product Development, Design or Management Process, State and Federal law application by product segment and an understanding of targeted consumer segments and distribution channels
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills that scale to all levels of the organization, and proven ability to influence others

• Understanding of customer loyalty and retention programs, and primary and secondary research processes
• Professional designation
• Life, Variable Annuity and Health Insurance License
